Graduation! - UCLAN, Preston

Well, today was the day I finally graduated!

I have not posted on the blog for a good couple of months but will be picking up my posts again in the next few weeks. I want to keep you updated on any job hunts and also any work placements that I any try to achieve over the summer months.

Today has been a strange experience, as now it feels real that I am off in to the big wide world, facing employment and standing on my own two feet!

So, what is the next step? Freelancing? Job hunting, Graphic design? Advertising? Promotional?...

Finally published!

Finally published my own website!

I am now out there, known to the world, but whether they realise this or not that is a whole other matter.

I set up my new website on 'Wix', which is a free service, easy layouts and a breeze to use. The idea is, whether you are a small business, or a lone designer (like me) their website helps you choose a template best suiting your identity.

Initially you start off with a homepage, deciding on colour schemes and layout, adding titles to promote yourself as soon as a potential client logs on to your page. The further you go on, the more advanced the site gets, changing image settings, positioning of text, alignment of images, quantity, etc. Basically, you are building yourself an online portfolio, creating an interesting site that employers will enjoy and love interacting with.

Want to employ me yet?

Seeing as I am nearly at the end of my degree I decided to redesign my business card as I hadn't updated it for a while. The idea is for me to put them out at our end of year degree show with my work from the year, advertising myself to any potential contacts, and also to use it when out in the big wide world!

Interesting Internship

While looking at jobs again today I found an internship for Trivago, the hotel price comparison website. Job title below:

Internship
Product / Content / Design

Düsseldorf, Germany

Duration of the internship: 6 months

My tasks if I was to get the position:
  • Consistently create new high-quality ideas and concepts for landing pages, our websites etc.
  • Enhance user experience, usability & functionality of our website, and our hotel information & internal tools.
  • Create new and responsive interfaces for all devices based on our brand guidelines and provide graphic elements for final implementation.
  • Design graphics and illustrations that millions of people will see.
  • Learn from and teach your international colleagues.
  • Help establish and reinforce consistent design patterns.
  • Keep up to date with the latest web design trends.

This position sounded exciting and something that was a new challenge, not only is there an opportunity to be based in another country but also how I could build up my contact list, experience another culture and expand my own knowledge and personality.

Maybe, if I'm lucky, the German I learnt all them years ago back in school will come flooding back!

Sketch-up Model

Only a short post today, based on my honours project moving swiftly forward. So today I thought I'd share with you my sketch-up model, bringing you up to date on the interior. It is nearly complete – I just need to render certain areas, giving a clear indication of what my design purpose is. I have uploaded a range of images to demonstrate my ideas, how fixtures work together, colour schemes and positioning of feature points.

So below are a couple of images of my sketch up model.
